My studio in San Francisco was above a historic blacksmith shop. Local songwriter Jesse Denatale said it reminded him that writing a song, is like forging metal; so we decided to do a portrait of him that would visually express that process. Each successive draft gets thrown into the fire until finally, the piece is finished
